A Little About Me

ome say that life is short, but I prefer to say that life is beautiful— and every second of it is worth remembering. Well, almost every second of it! Photography is the means by which I cherish more of life as it unfolds. Going through my prints and slides of days gone by and scrolling through the digital files of more recent years is like watching time, the time that makes up my life, slowly build on itself to create a rich and familiar story.

My love of photography began early in life. When I was twelve years old, I borrowed a point-and-shoot film camera from a friend and put a roll of film in it. After taking some pictures I took the film to the shop to be developed. When I was told that they had to send the negative away for development because it was color film and they could only develop black and white in house, I thought, "Oh, no! This camera can't take color pictures." I thought all my efforts had been wasted, not knowing that a camera only captures light on some form of media and doesn't care if it is color film, or black and white, or even light sensors attached to a memory device! That was my beginning with photography, but things quickly got better! I continued to shoot film feverishly and, at the age of eighteen I took on my first professional photography commission documenting a wedding.

Today, my beautiful wife and two sweet kids are the inspiration for what I do at Cheshmoon. Cheshmoon means "eyes" in the poetic Persian language, and it is with fresh eyes that I engage with the world. In looking for a photographer you always want to make sure you find someone who is passionate about seeing the truth in each moment. I strive to capture those moments outside of the perfectly posed and lit studio photograph, because while such images are great for magazines, it is the image that truthfully conjures those sweet memories and feelings which nurtures our hearts.
